Can you believe the Donald? I am telling you now, he knew what he was doing at every step, and the whole thing was a publicity stunt. Donald loves media attention and that is exactly what he got. From the start of this whole birther business, Donald Trump knew how to play it, how to manipulate the birther morons, and how to eventually get out of it when it was revealed that President Obama was really born in the United States.

You gotta give a guy credit that gets proven dead wrong and then takes credit for the proof coming out. That’s exactly what the Donald did. When Obama released his certificate, did the Donald say, “oops, sorry, i was wrong”? Nope. What did he do? He said he won! He said he was happy that he was able to do what everyone else was not able to do, get the president to release his long form birth certificate.

Wow. What a spin. That is why I think Trump knew exactly what would happen. He probably didn’t even have anyone in Hawaii researching this. He knew if he yapped about it long enough and created a big enough stink over it, Obama would be forced to release it. And that’s all Donald wanted. He wanted to be able to show that he could force the president’s hand.

Lets face facts. Only idiots really thought Obama wasn’t born in the US. For god’s sake Bill O’reilly even came out and said Obama was born here. SO either Trump is an idiot or he had a plan all along. Now, I don’t think Trump is an idiot. You just don’t get to be at his level by being stupid. So what was he playing at then?

It’s really a double win for the Donald. He gets massive exposure by pouncing on an issue that, if true, would really be a bombshell. If a sitting president really was not eligible to be president the implications would have been massive. But, he was, so it wasn’t. So the Donald gets a tour of all the big talk shows. He gets his face plastered all over the media. And when the long form birth certificate does finally come out, he can simply claim that he forced it to happen. Brilliant really.

Now all the Donald has to do is turn the issue from the birther issue to the issue of he was able to get the president to do something that he refused to do previously. It really is somewhat remarkable when you think about it. I had no idea the Donald was going to turn this whole debacle into what he has turned it into.

Will the Donald run for president? Of course not. He’s claimed to do it in the past and he didn’t then. He just likes to pop up, make a stink, get high ratings for his show, and pop back down. Good times. At least it was a good show. And really, that’s all the people want anyway, a good show to forget their woes. It’s almost as sad as watching a massive wedding that cost 20 million dollars. At least we’re not that bad. Right?

I have it! After long drawn out thinking I have come up with the three, real, best ways to fix the country. First off, let me say, that on a deep level, there really is nothing wrong with the country. Fundamentally the concepts of Capitalism and Democracy are great. Without either we wouldn’t have be able to enjoy the freedoms that we do today. Yes, despite what you may think, you really are living in a great country that is in no way heading towards socialism. Please read what socialism means before even thinking about suggesting it.

Now, Capitalism can get out of control a bit. Bill Maher has a great fact at his disposal. Just four hundred people make the same amount as 150 million people in this country. Now, if you believe in capitalism, you really can’t fault them. They aren’t doing anything illegal, they are just maxing out their capitalist needs. However, where we can find fault, and the first way we can fix our country, is how we treat these ultra rich a-holes.

1. Start taxing the fucking rich more

Sorry rich people. But if you make millions of dollars a year, you can give a little back to the rest of us schmucks. Here’s the interesting thing. If we did tax them more, guess what, they are still rich! Yes, we are not taking away their millions, just taking a way an extra percent or two. Or hell, make it 5. Whatever it is, we need to tax them more.

Now, I know there is the risk that the minority, the rich, will began paying for things that they don’t vote for because the majority, the poor, will out vote them. Ya know what, who cares. You have a mansion and can eat steaks every night. Cry me a river already. The freedom in this country is such that you can buy your own ranch, have your own mansion and do whatever you want on it. Take it an run.

This is now a message and a warning the rich. You have a good thing going. Pony up a little more and be happy about it. You don’t want the poor getting pissed off and come ransack your homes do you? Well then, pay your taxes. Pay lots of taxes. After you are done paying, you’ll still be really rich.

It’s really a travesty that the middle class are getting tax bumps and the rich are getting tax relief. Come on people, fix it! But then the rich have something that most other people done, and the second thing we should eliminate, lobbyists.

2. Eliminate lobbyists. Like, altogether, make the profession go away.

What’s the job of a lobbyists? To convince elected officials that they should vote in favor of the lobbyists bosses. That’s it. No facts, no science. Just schmooze and votes and nothing more. It’s really a crock of shit to be honest. What we are doing is allowing people and corporations to pay other people, the actual lobbyist, to convince elected officials to vote in a certain way. Does this not shock you? Congress should get updates from their constituents and fact checkers. That’s it. They should vote based on who they are representing and not what some company and lobbyist wants them to vote on. It’s disgusting really. But then when you are in office for decades you get to have relationships with these blood sucking lobbyists and more and more you will vote in their favor. Which brings me to number three in our countdown, please god, bring term limits to congress!

3. Term limits for both the house and senate.

Yes, term limits. The president has one. Why not Congress? Now, I’m not talking about 2 terms or anything, that may be too short. How about ten terms for the house and two terms for the senate? That way we can get rid of this crazy idea of politicians being some kind of a career. Politicians do two things. They smile and they make laws. So at any one time any politician is actually holding two jobs. He is ass kissing and he is actually trying to legislate. Well, those two professions are really mutually exclusive. You can’t honestly legislate if you are worried about how you are going to look. Well, if we take away the idea that these asshole serve in congress for life, you won’t have the need for them to worry about it anymore now will you! An added bonus here is that you may find that rich people, who currently make up the majority of congress, will probably stop running. Why run for something if you are only going to serve a few years. You may actually get some idealists or some other people who may think of other ways to do things.

Look people, you aren’t going to lose any fundamental rights. The Bill of Rights assures us of that. So lets get this career politicians out and some fress rotating people in. Please!

There you have it. Follow those three simple steps and BAM the country is back on track. There’s actually a few more things I would change but those three are the biggest ones. Keep in mind, I wouldn’t change any fundamental aspects of this country, just change a few minor things.

I live in Washington DC, along the up and coming H street corridor. I did not vote for Mr. Gray. To me it seemed that the only reason he was getting any votes was because everyone hated Adrian Fenty. Gray was just the better choice because, well, Fenty was being an asshole. Rule one of politics, appease, appease, appease. Fenty didn’t do that and now he’s no longer mayor.

Gray has had a pretty rough go at it so far. Lots of rumors of misconduct and investigations into his campaign. His approval rating is low and, honestly, he hasn’t even done anything yet.

The big worry about Gray is that he will return to Marion Barry style politics. That is, putting people into government jobs that really aren’t qualified for them. And, sure enough, it appears that he may be doing just that. Rumors fly about friends, sons, criminals, being put into high ranking DC jobs.

So it was with mild shock that I read that Mr. Gray had been arrested. I thought that something had happened and some piece of information had come out that confirmed he was acting illegally. I was very pleasantly surprised to find he was arrested for protesting the new budget from congress.

Congress, you headless monster of political idiocy, passed the budget and snaked in some anti-dc rules and regulations. I wonder how a state would feel if they were told they could or could not do something when that something should be totally in the authority of the state. I imagine they’d be pissed off.

What they did, preventing money from being spent on paying for abortions for under privileged DC women, is pretty bad. And really just a political move for the tea baggers. The savings from cutting spending on that is so small it won’t even make a shadow of a dent in the deficit. But I won’t harp on that, its more what Mr. Gray did instead.

Vincent Gray protested the budget and got himself arrested for it. He made national news and sent a strong message to Congress. Will the message do anything? Probably not. Congress doesn’t want DC to be a state or have full autonomy. They just don’t want the natives doing things that jeopardize their comfort in DC.

All it really showed was Gray’s willingness to get arrested for something he believes in. Was it grand standing and just a political move on his part? Probably. But kudos to you anyway Vincent Gray. You may not get the bully to leave you alone but at least you showed him that you are there.

Yes, I said it. Please piss off and form your own country. Because of you, women with little resources are now denied federal funding for abortions. And while we’re at it, why is it that you both hate abortions AND planned parenthood? Planned Parenthood are passing out condoms and talking about prevention and education. Oh, that’s right, you don’t like education too. Got it.

I am to the point now where I feel anyone that is a tea party supporter is an idiot. Do yourselves a favor, stop listening to Rush Limbaugh, stop watching Fox news and find some real information. Granted, all news agencies have some degree of spin, but Fox news and Rushy aren’t news agencies. They are opinionated assholes. They aren’t telling you anything that is true. They are just filling the airwaves with incendiary bullshit to increase ratings. That’s it. Beck left Fox news, why? Because his ratings started to go down and advertisers didn’t’ want anything to do with him. Wake up and smell the Coffee, its all about money, not about ideologies. They, the rich, just use your ideologies to push their own personal agendas of staying rich.

Why is it that Fox news can’t broadcast in Canada? Because Canada has laws against news agencies knowingly broadcasting lies. God, I wish we had that law.

And please stop screaming about the founding fathers and the constitution. You morons don’t even know whats in the constitution let alone what the founding fathers wanted.

Honestly, these idiots are the same a-holes since Nixon, just in different clothing. Right wingers, trying to get their agenda push forward and totally ignoring the wants of everyone else. Ya know, the majority.

Why did I pick Colorado? No reason, just googled the biggest state of tea party people and that one came up. If you live in Colorado and don’t want to secede, please join us on the coasts.

And don’t think i’m some super liberal all salivating on Obama. Wrong. His first term is just Bush’s third term. Sure, that is a bit harsh, but Jesus man, lets go already.

Want real change? How about limiting terms in Congress? How about ending lobbying altogether? How about making big businesses actually pay taxes and not get subsidies. GE made 14 billion in profit, PROFIT!, and pays no taxes???? What the fuck?? Want to fight the real enemy? It’s GE and every other big business. How about withdrawing troops from fucking Germany. News flash, Nazi’s are gone.

Sadly, the Tea Party got snookered by the rich and powerful. They were all fired up on the economy, loss of jobs and that energy was funneled to a political party fight against the democrats instead of where it should be going.

So what is the end result? They get all hot and bothered, start shouting about cuts to the budget, and begin cutting from the worst possible place. They cut from the 12% of the budget that funds small projects that actually help people instead of the big military industrial complex that is sucking this country dry. Happened to the Soviet Union, will happen to us. Spend all your money looking for a fight that’s never coming, and you go broke while the world laughs. Pitiful.

Sadly, no change is coming any time soon. Business as usual in D.C., business as usual in Wall Street, business as usual in big business. Tea Party? Party of suckers. Thanks a ton!

Wow. Can it get any better than this? I am about to get some popcorn and a some scotch and enjoy these mid-term elections. This is getting better than Sunday football. Are we really in the age when politics is being reduced to a popularity contest? Wait, was it ever anything else?

Is this really going to be the future of America? Candidates being elected not based on their intelligence or merits but on who thinks they should be elected? Sarah Palin supports Christine O’Donnell and just like that she’s the GOP candidate. And she is also bat shit crazy. Can we really be moving towards a future where the majority of candidates really believe that scientists are trying to make really intelligent rodents?

Now, in a way, i’m all for really smart mice as along as they don’t try to find the answer to the question of Life, The Universe and Everything. Because, in case you don’t know, that ends really really badly for the Earth. Damn Vogon’s…

Seriously though, I for one and getting just a bit paranoid. Congress has always been about rich people getting a job. And I suppose that’s fine if they aren’t, ya know, bat shit crazy. But now we are moving towards non-rich people who think we have to take back America, though from whom they never can say, and restore Freedom from our socialist ways. Let me tell you something, we’re not where near being socialists. And these people are riding the wave of disgruntled people that are just looking for someone to blame for the shit economy. HINT, blame Bush, it’s his fault.

Now, I’m not saying that Obama’s shit doesn’t stink. I am pissed at him for not repealing the Patriot Act. That is the biggest afront to freedom to hit the US in our history. Do you realize that an American citizen was held with out due process for over 2 years??? Where was the anger there? And that is not the only thing that frustrates me with Obama. He has the House and the Senate and should have taken the reigns.

That said, please, for the love of God, good citizens of Delaware, do not elect this person to the Senate. I know some say she is a long shot, but now the GOP is backing her. For the love of all things smart, she thinks mice have been given human brains. Isn’t that enough to kick her to the curb?

I am not a conservative. I voted for Obama and will probably do so again. But liberals are starting to wonder whether Obama will ever deliver on some of his campaign promises. True, it’s only been a year and Obama was thrown into quite a mess, but the failure to deliver may be a big gun in the arsenal of the GOP and their red-headed step-sister, the Tea Party.

It looks like Obama is finally going after Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. He didn’t address it at all in 2009 but he appears to be tackling it in 2010.

One area, however, that he didn’t go after and in fact flip-flopped a bit on, is the Patriot Act. This piece of legislation is the most shocking thing to ever have been passed, and supported by two presidents. Obama has done nothing to overturn it and has in fact supported some of its provisions.

The Patriot Act is something that should never have been passed. That famous quote of Benjamin Franklin comes to mind: “Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither”. Nevertheless, it was passed and it is still in effect. The Patriot Act gives a tremendous amount of power to the government to do whatever it feels it needs to do in the protection of this country. Because of the Patriot Act, the government can spy on its own citizens. It can lock up its citizens based on mere suspicion.

I do believe we must protect this country from terrorists. But let’s face facts. It wasn’t an inability to spy on Americans that caused 9/11. It was inter-agency miscommunication and bureaucracy getting in the way of protecting this country. Has the Patriot Act addressed these issues? No. Even if the Patriot Act were to provide us with some immeasurable increased level of safety, do we want to gain that security at the price of our liberty?

Why not? The worst of it may not even be the Patriot Act. It’s what comes next. If a President who is sensitive to protecting our civil liberties won’t repeal it, what will President Palin do with it? What future presidents pursue in the name of security may lead to the eventual eradication of our civil liberties. When you open the door to the restriction of rights, someone will find a way to drive a truck through it.

President Obama may not have opened that door, but he has done nothing to shut it either. I really can’t imagine how this thing is still in place. There simply has to be a way to protect the safety of America without sacrificing the liberties that we as a nation hold dear.

At the end of the day, it’s the giant multiple bureaucracies of this country that cause more danger to Americans than anything else. Why do we need so many different agencies? Why can’t we have a combined FBI, CIA, Secret Service, ATF, etc etc? One agency, one director. Wouldn’t that eliminate the intelligence failure that caused 9/11?

I’m no expert on this, and yes, I know that Homeland Security was meant to be that central agency. Unfortunately, Homeland Security became just one more bureaucracy on top of the pile. The Patriot Act does not streamline communication between these agencies. It only allows them to gather and hoard more information for themselves.

Maybe I am beating an old horse. But Obama, by supporting one of the most contentious bills ever passed by Bush, has done himself and his supporters a disservice. Allowing the Patriot Act to stand simply maintains the dangerous power-mongering that came to define the Bush era in the minds of liberal Obama supporters. I can only hope that this too will one day be tackled and removed by Obama. Let’s hope that day comes before 2012.
