Fringe – Is It Getting Tripped Up By Its Own Story Line?
{EAV:91589507ff8906b1}
So, the thought occurred to me while watching Fringe the other night. Something that really kinda unravels the entire current story line for me. So, please, read and if you think i’m wrong, let me know. I don’t think I am.
The logic here is that Peter never existed because he was never saved by the observers in the lake. Simple. Well, here’s some history so we know how and why this breaks down.
Walter couldn’t save his son. Walter’s Peter died and that hasn’t changed. Walter was never able to cure him. But, he was able to build a looking glass into the other universe. He witnessed Walternate’s son go through the same thing as his own son.
Walter watched as Walternate, using superior technology, came up with drug cocktails to try to cure him. When Walternate stumbled upon the correct concoction, an observer came into the room, distracted Walternate, and as a result he missed the crucial moment when the chemicals were mixing together. Because of that intrusion by the observer, Walternate never got the cure.
This forced Walter’s hand and he crossed over, grabbed Peter, tried to cure him, but he fell through the ice.
So here is where things break down. Why doesn’t Walter know who the observers are? He must have still saw them or he would not have had to cross over. If the observers can change the past, and remove their own influence in the timeline, why not just remove themselves when they interrupt Walternate?
I hope to think the writers have this covered. But really, I don’t see how. It just doesn’t add up. Maybe we’ll find out in a future episode but they are going to have to come up with something very clever to get this to work.
