Joseph Lieberman awarded GAM award for doing the most to limit health care coverage in 2009
In an attempt to add some levity and some stronger opinions on this blog, I am introducing the GAM (George Allen Miller) awards for a variety of areas. The first recipient is the honorable Senator from Connecticut. The award? Doing the absolute most to limit and restrict health care coverage in the United States of America in the year 2009.Congratulations!
I am of course talking about the good Senator’s December crusade to eliminate the public option in the Senate health care bill and removing medicaid coverage for those at 55. His reason? He claims that it is to save American’s money. Oh and his wife is a lobbyist for insurance companies. Didn’t know that? Shocker. Now, I am not saying that Senator Lieberman’s wife lobbied Senator Lieberman during dinner, sex (shudder), or any other moment at home. It is just terribly curious how he was so forceful against the very thing that threatened the insurance companies the most.
I’m sorry, but isn’t that just a conflict of interest? Shouldn’t we make some changes to lobbyist laws that would prevent the spouses of elected officials from being a lobbyist? I mean come on here. It doesn’t matter if you are a republican or a democrat, you have to see that when a Senator is married to a lobbyist they are likely to at least discuss something at some point where both have interests. Which would cause a conflict. As Lieberman the Senator should have the best interests of the country in mind while Lieberman the wife has the best interests of the insurance companies in mind. Hence conflict of interests.
Is there any real fallout from Senator Lieberman’s strong arming of the democrats? How about five million people won’t be covered for starters. According to an article on politics daily that is the difference in people being covered between the senate and house bills. Read the article here.
I for one think that’s a crock of shit. Five million people pay the price for Lieberman’s power play. Shameful. That is why, Senator Lieberman, you are hereby awarded a GAM award for being a prick and denying five million people health care coverage. Good job serving your wife the American people!
