Mind controlled technology is not just coming – its here

There are two new products on the market today. Both share one very cool thing in common. They don’t have touchscreens, voice commands or hand controllers. You make them work by using your brain alone. Yes, that’s right, you just think and the game does something.

Am I the only person who is both totally geeked out and just a little bit terrified by this? This isn’t some neat new high falutent gizmo coming down the pipe in a few years, these are here, now, you can buy them today and be friggin brain controlling something by the end of the week.

The two items are a game system from the guys at http://www.Emotiv.com and a neat toy from these folks http://www.unclemilton.com/starwarsscience/ .

With the Emotiv device, it’s a game on the scale of something like World of Warcraft. Yes, you can play a WoW clone with your thoughts. Probably be able to play WoW in 3-4 years like this. The other game is a simple ball hovering in a tube, that you make hover by thinking.

In the mid-80′s no one really knew that the Internet was going to take off like it has, as was mobile computing. Looking back at that naivety I have to wonder, did anyone ever consider brain controlled devices? I remember an argument I had at a Denny’s with a computer guru friend of mine. He designs Solaris computer systems, oracle DBA, the works. I mentioned the possibility of some kind of brain control devices and he scoffed at it like it was impossible.

The dream is bigger than the intellect it seems. This new technology, brain controlled devices, i have a hunch, is going to be the next big wave of coolness. That and augmented reality. You know, hold your cell phone up in the air, point it at something, see a virtual bill board. Just another place where someone can sell advertising. But, at least i’ll be able to think “OFF” and so it will be.

If anyone buys one of those two gadget, do drop us a comment on here and tell us your experiences with it.
