Redskins week 3 – here we go again!
Another week, another loss. The defense was horrible this week. The lions scored 19 points on solid drives, bad penalties and just a sad performance. Both of the high profile players got hurt at some point, Haynesworth and Orakpo, but both returned later in the game but it didn’t seem to matter.
The offense, well, horrible as well. Coaching? You guessed it, horrible. The offense started out doing very well. Cambpell moved the ball and the offense made it down to the 3 yard line. Then Zorn decided to go back to basics. Basically moronic.
This was the first of two critical coaching mistakes that lost the game. Lets just skip the whole, redskins should have dominated them on all fronts argument. The skins got down to 4th and goal and guess what, Zorn, shocker, decides to go for it! Will someone please tell Zorn he doesn’t have go for it on 4th and goal for god’s sake! Kick the field goal! Put points on the board! I’ve never seen anything like this in professional football! If he had done that, the score would have been 19-17. At least then they could have tried a long field goal at the end.
Mistake two? A holding call that Zorn accepted on 4th down, making it 3rd and 13 for the lions. Guess what happened. The lions get the first down and eventually a touch down. That’s why you don’t give the other team extra downs Zorny! I’m not a professional head coach, sports writer or any thing like that, but I know you don’t give them an extra chance to score big.
So lets recap, if Zorny hadn’t done number one and hadn’t done number two, the score is, uhm, lets see, 19-7+3 is 15 for the Lions and 14+3 is 17 for the Skins. Hey wait, that would mean we would have won! Holy shiznit!
Bottom line, the redskins played badly, no question. But what was worse is the coaching and the calls the head coach made. A real head coach would have put points on the board and not given the opposing team more time on the field. Giving them the 3 points is better than giving them the chance for 7. That’s the difference between an offense coordinator and a real head coach in the NFL. This season is just about over as far as I’m concerned. Zorn can’t coach to save his life and no way you get someone of a high enough caliber mid-season to turn things around. Why is the mantra of the redskins always “lets see how they do next season”!
