Washington Redskins – Season opener 2009
It’s funny how in 24 hours a person’s mind can be changed. Yesterday I posted about how the Skins may just shock the world and go 10-6, a playoff berth and maybe even, the end of all ends to a season, the Superbowl. Now i’m going to tell you how they are going to go 6-10, no playoff berth, and be looking for a new QB and head coach come 2010.
The skins started the game pretty good all things considered. The defense stopped the giants on a 4th and goal at the 2. They also held them to a field goal on their last possession. In truth, the defense held the Giants offense to only 16 points. That’s not bad at all.
The offense on the other hand…the offense not only didn’t score much, they also contributed to 7 points going the way of the Giants. Ok, let my voice add to the chorus that’s shouting in the interwebs. THROW THE BALL! What is it with 1st down run, 2nd down run, 3rd down pass. Huh? Ok, Portis did have a good 30+ yard run, great, good job. But then what do you do. Give it to Antwaan Randle El and have him try to throw it? So what you are saying is, you trust your 2nd wide receiver more than your quarterback to throw the ball down the field? Insane. Absolutely horrible play calling by the Skins offense. You aren’t going to have good wide receivers if you don’t throw them the ball every once in a while.
Overall i’d give the skins a B+ for the day. That is high, I know, but the defense did do well and special teams snaked off a sneaky fake field goal for a TD. Offense i’d have to give a D-. Pitiful really. They are showing they still have zero confidence in Campbell. Let him throw the ball. If you are going to go down in flames at least do it with style. Run, run, pass is a terrible strategy but it’s one that we went with on Sunday. Any idiot could tell what we were going to do before the ball was snapped.
That’s enough of my rant. Next week, the Rams. Can we please tell the offesne that they can throw the ball more than once in a set of downs for this one??
