Brock Lesnar, the new face of MMA?

07.13.2009 · Posted in Current Events

If you haven’t seen the fight yet, or heard about it, you’re not an MMA fan. Suffice to say, Brock turned Frank Mir’s face into grizzled hamburger. I watched it live from my new 1600 dollar couch sipping Japanese scotch. Brock is a titan. No doubt about it. He’s also an a-hole with no sense of sportsmanship.

What did he do? After the fight he gave the finger to the crowd (both barrells), told Frank to ‘talk some more shit’ and dissed bud light. Ok, plus 10 for funny and minus several million for professional. But the question is, do the fans really care?

I heard Dana White was mad. He went to Brock’s bathroom and dragged him in for a good “talking to”. Are you kidding? Lets be honest here. Dana and the UFC hired Brock for the sensationalism of having a gigantor of a man fighting under their banner. Nothing more. He’s meant to sell tickets and PPV subscriptions.

Remember when some idiot at ESPN hired Rush Limbaugh (Puke head) to talk about football? Remember how the racist idiot said something about the media and black quaterbacks? What was shocking was how people were shocked. A racist idiot is going to be racist! Why is that surprising?

Brock is going to be sensational. He’s going to flip off the fans. He’s going to tell Frank to ‘suck it’. And frankly, who cares? He’s a specticle. He’s fun to watch fight. He’s a titan on two feet. He kicked the shit out of Frank Mir, who now has hamburger forĀ a face. Ticket sales will go UP after this. You put Brock in the same ring with Fedor and guess what? People will buy the PPV, even if it’s 5 lousy fights for 55 dollars (seriously, on a side note, Dana, wtf, 5 fights for 55 dollars?)

Bottom line? Brock Lesnar is the UFC heavy weight champion. Dana can bash him all he wants in the bathroom and have him be a humble boy to the media. UFC is changing. If you let in fighters that were raised in the sensational WWE, they are going to bring with them that sensationalism. Brock was just as loud and obnoxious in his last fights, what makes people think he’ll be anything less in future fights?

For me, it doesn’t matter. What matters is when the bell rings and both fighters go toe to toe. One will win, one will lose. It’s about the display of excellenance in the sport of MMA. The UFC promotes smack talk before the fights, it’ll have to deal with smack talk after the fights as well.
